Wright-Patt Credit Union Wins Two Ohio Credit Union League Leadership Awards

Wright-Patt Credit Union has been selected as the recipient of two 2010 Ohio Credit Union League Leadership Recognition Awards. The annual awards recognize outstanding performances by credit unions, individuals, and chapters within the credit union industry and movement.
Wright-Patt was awarded The Louise Herring Award for Philosophy in Action for its Savings Race and The Cutting Edge Marketing Brilliance Award for its Special Patronage Dividend Video Contest. Award winners were recognized at the Ohio Credit Union League’s Zenith2010 conference held April 15-16 in Cincinnati.
“We are extremely honored to be selected for these awards,” said Doug Fecher, President and CEO of Wright-Patt Credit Union. “However, the biggest reward is helping our more than 190,000 members save more of their hard-earned money and lead more financially secure lives each and every day. The projects recognized by these awards are simply the tools we use to accomplish that goal.”
About the Awards
The Louise Herring Award for Philosophy in Action formally recognizes credit unions that demonstrate and promote, in an extraordinary way, the practical application of the “people helping people” philosophy. Wright-Patt’s Savings Race was created with this philosophy in mind. Now in its second year, the Race features five local families who compete to increase their savings and reduce debt over eight months. In 2009, the families in the first Savings Race collectively increased their net worth by more than $145,000. The Savings Race benefits not only on the five families involved, but the entire Miami Valley through free financial education “Pit Stops,” Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University, online tips and tools, and more.
The Cutting Edge Marketing Brilliance Award recognizes one credit union’s truly progressive, cutting-edge, innovative marketing and communication efforts to promote itself through the use of new techniques, vehicles, markets, etc. This is the signature marketing award presented by the Ohio Credit Union League. WPCU nominated its Special Patronage Dividend Video Contest, which asked members to create a short video explaining how credit unions are different from banks and what Wright-Patt’s $4 million Special Patronage Dividend meant to them. With a focus on email communication and social media such as Facebook and YouTube, the contest showed the value of leveraging technology in today’s marketing efforts.
