The York Chapter of Credit Unions awards three scholarships!
YORK, PA (May 3, 2017) — On Monday, May 1, 2017, the York Chapter of Credit Unions announced the winners of its 2017 scholarship contest; Erin O’Malley, Trevor Grim, and Ciara Coombes. All three received $1,000 to go towards their first year of schooling.
Erin O’Malley is the 18-year-old daughter of Sharon O’Malley. Erin is a senior at West York Area High School studying aboard in Germany. She is on the Distinguished honor roll, the winner of the Creative York Writer’s Eye award and she was selected as a West York Representative in the Future Leaders of York Program. She is also on the National Honor Society. Erin plans to attend the University of Rochester in the fall and pursue a Masters of Arts in translation to be able to translate German works of prose and poetry. Joan Nolin, Erin’s Godmother spoke on her behalf during Monday’s meeting. Erin is a member of York Educational Federal Credit Union.
Trevor Grim is the 18-year-old son of Benjamin and Melissa Grim. Trevor is a senior at Bermudian Springs High School where he is ranked second in his graduating class. He is on the Distinguished honor roll, a part of the Varsity Track and Football team, Class President and Student Council just to name a few. He is also on the Dean’s list at Harrisburg Area Community College. Trevor plans to attend Penn State University in the fall to pursue a Bachelor’s in Engineering, then a professional Engineering License. Trevor Grim is a member of Glatco Credit Union.
Ciara Coombes is the 18-year-old daughter of Lorraine Coombes. Ciara is a senior at Northeastern Senior High School where she is a part of the Varsity Soccer and Softball team. She is ranked 1st in her graduating class and is a part of the National Honor Society. Ciara was selected as the Rotary of York Student of the month, VFW Ladies Auxiliary Award Winner just to name a few. She plans to attend Pennsylvania State University in the fall to pursue a career in Forensic Science and plans to work for the FBI or Law Enforcement. Ciara Coombes is a member of White Rose Credit Union.
