Putting the ‘social’ into social media

Once upon a time, in a galaxy far far away…. No, I’m kidding. I won’t do that.
It was roughly 10 years ago when Facebook was officially opened up to the public, instead of just being for college students. When we think back to the birth and idea of Facebook, it was simply to connect students on college campuses with similar interests. It was ‘cool’ and ‘new.’ Was that the last time social media was truly social?
We only had a few things to do on Facebook at that time. We could message, write on someone’s wall (that’s what we older folk call it) and we could poke each other. Do we still do this? Sometimes. That isn’t all social media does anymore. Now, social media is a tool for sharing information with the public, but it’s still as social as you want it to be.
What does all of this have to do with finances and credit unions? How could a tool designed to connect people possibly help a credit union? Create a community with them. They are your foundation. They want to hear from you!
