SchoolsFirst FCU lives the ‘people helping people’ philosophy

SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union raises a quarter-million dollars for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals annually – and is creating a community of volunteers, leaders and advocates in the process.

Members and teammembers of SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union, based in Orange County, California, get an A+ as a partner with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMN Hospitals) and Credit Unions for Kids (CU4Kids). SchoolsFirst FCU raised and donated $643,011 in 2018 and 2019 for CMNH and affiliated hospitals, including Children’s Hospital of Orange County, Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, and Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego. These are impressive numbers, but their impact goes well beyond the dollars raised. Through their work with CU4Kids and CMNH, SchoolsFirst FCU is living the people helping people philosophy that credit unions share and creating a community of volunteers, leaders and advocates in the process.

Commitment to the cause runs deep at SchoolsFirst FCU. Bill Cheney, President and CEO was named to CMN Hospitals Board of Trustees this year in recognition of his years of dedicated involvement. Bill has been an active advocate for CMN Hospitals for more than 30 years. The credit union’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Jose Lara, is the current Chair for the CU4Kids Advisory Board and Dana Schuller, Chief Administrative Officer, has been a member of the Board since its inception over 10 years ago.

“We are enthusiastic champions of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and CU4Kids,” says Cheney, “Supporting our local children’s hospitals and helping kids and their families during difficult times speaks directly to our values as a credit union. We exist to foster the financial well-being of our Members and the overall health of the communities we serve. This aligns perfectly with our work with CU4Kids.”
