Contactless payments are not new. In fact, consumers have used contactless cards to pay for transactions since the early 2000s, though the magnetic stripe cards of that era were far different from today’s much more secure EMV cards.
But with the changes brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, the desire—and need—to switch to a more touch-free way to pay is top of mind for many people. The first step is to walk members through the journey to contactless payments. When they ask you what a contactless payment is, your team members can say: “A contactless payment is a non-cash payment transaction that doesn’t need a physical connection between the consumer payment device and the point-of-sale terminal.”
