The 12 Values that Turned Around Honeywell

I subscribe to the magazine, Chief Executive.  It is a great read.  In the last issue, the magazine named Honeywell CEO David Cote as CEO of the year. They did a wonderful feature article on Mr. Cote, which you can read here.

Mr. Cote turned around Honeywell by focusing on 12 behaviours that he wanted to see everywhere through the organization.

Those would be:

  • Championing Change & Six Sigma
  • Fostering Teamwork & Diversity
  • Global Mindset

  • Self-Awareness/Learning

  • Technical or Functional Excellence

Was their pushback? You bet.  In the words of Mr. Cote:

One guy asked me, “Why are we wasting time on stuff like behaviors when we need to be making decisions here?” I replied, “I can make all the strategic decisions you want; but if nobody does them, it doesn’t matter. We must create a culture where we’re going to get things done so that, when we agree on something, it actually happens.”
