This week: NAFCU kicks off BSA, risk events; Berger to speak to defense CUs

More than 300 credit union representatives are in Denver this week for two NAFCU seminars focused on Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and risk management. As credit union compliance officers and risk experts learn how to keep their institutions compliant, NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger will discuss other top credit union issues tomorrow during a Washington and industry update to defense credit unions.

Berger will give his update at the Defense Credit Union Council (DCUC) Conference happening in Williamsburg, Va. NAFCU is also currently working with the DCUC to obtain guidance from the Department on Defense on issues related to its Military Lending Act.

NAFCU’s BSA Seminar officially kicks off today with sessions designed to give attendees a solid understanding of the law, its regulators and how to ensure a credit union is compliant. Sessions will also cover elder abuse and reporting requirements for suspicious activity reports (SARs) and currency transaction reports (CTRs). A pre-conference session Sunday detailed historical influences of the BSA. The full agenda is available here; receive the most up-to-date conference information via Twitter with #BSASeminar.
