Woman attempts to purchase $1.2M home with forged credit union check

A 49-year old woman attempted to purchase a $1.2 million home with a forged Pennsylvania credit union cashier’s check.
Carroll Township Police charged Katherine D. Kempson of Dillsburg, Pa., last month with four counts forgery and one count of writing a bad check.
Police said Kempson allegedly went to the website of the $3.3 billion Members 1st Federal Credit Union in Mechanicsburg, Pa. and copied the cooperative’s logo. She then allegedly pasted the logo on a fake $1.2 million cashier’s check.
Kempson also wrote a bad check to Caldwell Banker Real Estate for $60,000 and forged the signatures of a Members 1st Federal Credit Union employees on bank documents.
