WASHINGTON, D.C (May 14, 2025) |
The Defense Credit Union Council (DCUC), together with its member credit unions serving U.S. military communities overseas, recently gathered in Copenhagen, Denmark, for this year’s DCUC Overseas Sub-Council Conference, co-hosted by Global Credit Union.
“Our Overseas Sub-Council Conference in Copenhagen was a powerful reminder of the vital role defense credit unions play in supporting our service members and their families around the globe,” said Anthony Hernandez, DCUC President/CEO. “I want to extend our deepest gratitude to Global Credit Union for co-hosting this event, and to our sponsors whose generosity and partnership made this gathering possible. Their support enabled our Overseas Sub-council members to engage with local communities, hear from distinguished diplomatic and military leaders, and chart a clear, strategic advocacy roadmap for the year ahead.”
Attendees visited their local credit union branches at U.S. bases across Europe, engaged with community members in each location, and reaffirmed their shared commitment to supporting our servicemen and women, and their families, stationed abroad. The conference also featured timely, high-level discussions on pressing international topics—from the political and strategic status of Greenland to the diplomatic ramifications of current policy debates and evolving maritime strategies.
During the week, attendees were provided with updates and presentations from high-level diplomatic and military speakers including Jennifer Hall Godfrey, Chargé d’affaires, U.S. Embassy, Copenhagen; Lieutenant General (Ret.) David "Kooler" Krumm; and Pablo Mendez Adorno, MAJ, FC, Dispersing Officer. The Conference also featured additional guest speakers and discussions from Jeffrey Bolton, CEO, and NFN Productions “The Watch” Producer; Mike Schenk, Economist; Mike Ensweiler, Principal at ALM First; and Deedee Myers, CEO of DDJ Myers.
Additionally, DCUC’s Overseas Conference included an engaging credit union advocacy panel discussion led by Anthony Hernandez, DCUC President/CEO, alongside Jason Stverak, DCUC Chief Advocacy Officer; John McKechnie, Principal of McKechnie, LLC, and DCUC Advocacy Consultant, and Grace Newcombe Colvin, Vice President of Federal Advocacy and Strategy at The League of Credit Unions & Affiliates. The panel delved into current and emerging policy priorities, providing a strategic roadmap for credit union advocacy, outlining key issues under consideration, and charting the movement’s next steps in championing credit unions and the communities they serve.
DCUC's 2025 Overseas Conference was made possible thanks to the following DCUC sponsorships: Armed Forces Financial Network (AFFN), ALM First, Allied Solutions LLC, DDJ Myers, an ALM First Company, Earnest Consulting Group (ECG), FIS, Gallagher, and TruStage.
