With the goal of elevating the next generation of credit union leaders, the MD|DC Credit Union Association welcomed young professionals from across the region to its annual Young Professional Summit last week, which was hosted by Johns Hopkins Federal Credit Union in Baltimore.
More than 24 credit unions were represented at Momentum 2025 where attendees expanded their networks, strengthened their understanding of the credit union industry, and engaged in meaningful discussions about leadership and growth.
The Summit offered practical tools to support professional development. Sessions included a workshop on emotional intelligence that explored how to navigate professional interactions with empathy, self-awareness and confidence, as well as strategies for managing workplace dynamics. Participants also received professional headshots to help build their networks and personal brands.
A new feature of this year’s event was a group project that challenged participants to develop solutions to real-world credit union scenarios. Working in teams, attendees analyzed the issues, created strategic recommendations, and presented their proposals to a panel of credit union executives who provided valuable feedback and mentorship.
Each YP Summit includes a community giveback initiative; this year, donations were collected to support a local food bank.
“The Young Professionals Summit showed me that leadership isn’t about age, it's about passion, purpose, and connections,” said Brian Gordon, Member Solutions Manager at Spectra Credit Union and MD|DC Credit Union Association’s 2025 Emerging Leader Award winner. “Together, we’re shaping the future of credit unions and carrying forward the spirit of people helping people. The conversations, collaboration, and shared drive among young professionals reminded me that the movement’s strength lies in our commitment to growth, both personally and for our members. I’m leaving inspired to keep learning, connecting, and leading with a purpose.”
