Oklahoma, Ok (November 7, 2025) |
Yesterday, ten Oklahoma Credit Unions came together for CU in the Community, a day of service rooted in the cooperative principle of “people helping people.” This initiative united Credit Unions to strengthen the community they proudly serve.
In partnership with Rebuilding Together OKC, a nonprofit dedicated to revitalizing homes for low-income seniors, Credit Union volunteers worked on critical home repairs for a senior veteran. “The impact of a safe and healthy home cannot be overstated. A Day of Service is a powerful example of what’s possible when communities come together to care for one another,” said Executive Director, April Gonzalez. These efforts addressed essential needs and created lasting improvements, showcasing the heart of the Credit Union movement: collaboration for meaningful impact beyond financial services.
“As Credit Unions, we’ve seen the power of collaboration through CU in the Park, our annual free concert in the park that brings us together in a way that’s rare in the financial services industry,” said Jennifer Curtis, VP of Marketing at WEOKIE Federal Credit Union. “CU in the Community is another opportunity to join forces,
extend that same cooperative spirit, and make a lasting impact that goes far beyond financial services— strengthening the communities we proudly serve.”
This year’s event demonstrated the strength of cooperative efforts and the commitment of Credit Unions to volunteerism and community well-being. Forty-two volunteers gave back their time to the community, contributing 121 hours to make a meaningful difference through this effort. Each year, CU in the Community will partner with a different nonprofit to spotlight volunteerism and highlight the unique contributions Credit Unions bring to Oklahoma communities.
