Columbia, SC -The Credit Unions of South Carolina presented a $1,000 donation to Sistercare last week as part of the ongoing MADTAG (Making a Difference, Passing it ON) Campaign.
"Recently South Carolina was ranked #2 in the nation in the rate of women killed by men by the Violence Policy Center, mainly from domestic violence. The credit union mantra is people helping people, and this was an opportunity for credit unions around the Midlands to collaboratively pitch in and help make a difference in our community" said Chris Terlindin, Marketing Director at Palmetto Citizens Federal Credit Union, a participating credit union in the MADTAG movement.
Midlands area credit unions taking part in the MADTAG program made the $1,000 donation. Sistercare executives say it will fund three weeks of operations of the emergency shelter for battered women and children. Sistercare provides services to residents in Fairfield, Kershaw, Lexington, Newberry and Richland counties.
The Credit Unions of South Carolina are challenging other businesses and organizations to pitch in to help Sistercare with monetary donations to help fund their operations.
Organized in 1934, the non-profit South Carolina Credit Union League was established by credit union leaders who believed in the cooperative spirit and the common goal of credit union growth. Today, the League and its affiliates help credit unions improve products, service delivery, and employee education. The League is also a focal point of credit unions' collective political voice.
