Hughes Federal Credit Union announced ten $2000 scholarships for Class of 2026 graduating seniors

Tucson, AZ (February 19, 2026) |

Hughes Federal Credit Union is now accepting applications for its 21st annual Roberta Reeves Scholarship. The credit union will award $20,000 in scholarships to 10 students, with each recipient receiving $2,000 to support their higher education goals. This annual program reinforces Hughes’ commitment to local youth and education.

The scholarship, named in honor of Roberta Reeves, a long-serving member of Hughes Federal Credit Union's Board of Directors, has awarded more than $145,000 to students since its launch in 2005.

“Our community thrives when we invest in our youth,” said Valerie Fanelli, VP of Marketing at Hughes Federal Credit Union. “By supporting local students through these scholarships, we hope to make a positive difference in their lives as they take the next step toward continuing their education, empowering them to pursue their goals and shape their future.”

To qualify, applicants must be high school seniors graduating in 2026, entering a college, university, trade school or certification program, and be a primary member of Hughes Federal Credit Union. Applicants are invited to apply through March 31 by writing an essay or submitting a video. Topic and special instructions can be found at HughesFCU.org/Scholarship.

Beyond the Roberta Reeves Scholarship, Hughes supports financial wellness and education year-round. The credit union hosts financial literacy workshops across Tucson, partners with local organizations like Take Charge Cats, Earn to Learn, and the Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona, and offers interactive learning tools, such as MoneyCoach for Students, which provides interactive modules designed to make financial topics accessible and easy to understand.

“These efforts, spanning financial literacy programs, scholarships, volunteerism, and local investment, demonstrate our ongoing commitment to strengthening the communities we serve,” said Fanelli.
