Members First Credit Union collects over 1,600 books to expand access through Little Free Libraries

Midland, MI (April 9, 2026) |

What started as a simple idea to put more books within reach quickly grew into a community-wide effort to expand access to reading across local Michigan Communities.

Through its recent month-long book drive, Members First Credit Union collected more than 1,600 books, supported by members, team members, and community partners. Donation drop-off locations were available at every Members First Credit Union branch, and over the course of the drive, individuals and families contributed books to help stock and refresh local Little Free Libraries, ensuring readers of all ages have greater access to stories, learning, and opportunity.

“When books are easy to access, curiosity grows—and so do connection and opportunity,” said Bethany Dutcher, Chief Marketing and Strategy Officer at Members First Credit Union. “At Members First, we believe thriving communities are built through learning, generosity, and shared moments that bring people together. Seeing our members, team members, and community partners rally around Reading Month—especially as we celebrate 90 years—was a powerful reminder of what’s possible when we show up for one another.”

Each donation represents more than a book, it’s a new opportunity: a child discovering a favorite story, a family sharing a moment together, or a community member finding inspiration on a neighborhood walk.

Books from the drive will be distributed to Little Free Libraries located throughout the community, where they will be freely available for anyone to take, share, and enjoy.
