Hollywood, FL (May 13, 2026) |
SUN Credit Union recently hosted its “SUN Fuels the Community” event, providing free gas to 50 local drivers in an effort to help ease the financial strain many families continue to experience from elevated living costs and high gas prices.
The event took place on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at a Marathon gas station in Hollywood, where SUN Credit Union staff filled tanks for the first 50 vehicles in line, offering up to $50 in free gas per vehicle. Community members began arriving well before sunrise, with the first driver entering the line around 5:30 a.m. for the 7:30 a.m. event start.
The initiative received strong community support and media attention, including onsite coverage from CBS Miami.
One attendee shared that the free tank of gas would allow him to use the money he would have spent at the pump toward paying his utility bill instead. Despite waiting nearly two hours, he described the experience as “worth it” and said he would gladly do it again.
“We wanted to create a meaningful moment of relief for our community,” said Lorena Cooke, Director of Marketing & Business Development. “At SUN Credit Union, people come first, and this event was a reminder that even small acts of support can make a real difference for families navigating today’s financial challenges.”
SUN Credit Union also thanked the Hollywood Police Department for assisting with traffic flow and helping ensure the event operated safely and smoothly.
The gas giveaway reflects SUN Credit Union’s continued commitment to community engagement and financial wellness throughout South Florida.
