(December 19, 2013) -- The Centra Foundation is pleased to announce that it is accepting applications to the Loretta M. Burd Scholarship Program. The scholarship program has been renamed in honor of Loretta Burd, who retired at the end of 2012 after 47 years of service including 25 years as Chief Executive Officer.
Both the Centra Foundation and Centra Credit Union place a high value on education and the importance of individuals pursuing higher education opportunities to earn college degrees. The Foundation offers two scholarship opportunities. Graduating High School seniors are encouraged to apply for the Loretta M. Burd High School Scholarship. Adults or non-traditional students should apply for the Loretta M. Burd Adult Scholarship program. Individuals selected to receive a scholarship will receive a minimum of $1,000.
Scholarships are open to graduating high school seniors and non-traditional students who plan to attend a two- or four-year college, university, or technical school. Applicants must be a member of Centra Credit Union with accounts that are in good standing.
Individuals should visit the scholarship section of the Centra Foundation website www.centrafoundation.org/scholarships/ to complete and submit their application. In addition to the form, applicants are required to write an essay and upload it into the application form. An official verification of grades from the student’s high school is also required. All items must be received by the Centra Foundation by Monday, February 17th.
The Centra Foundation was created by Centra Credit Union in 2012. The Foundation is the charitable arm of Centra Credit Union and was formed to extend the Credit Union’s mission of People Helping People. The Centra Foundation is Centered on Caring and will work with local organizations to help meet the needs of communities where Centra members work and live.
