NAFCU’s March 27 webcast Hhghlights Target data breach

WASHINGTON, DC (March 7, 2014) -- The National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU) is offering an hour-and-a-half webcast featuring an overview of the Target data breach and the appropriate measures to protect credit unions’ members. The webcast, “The Target Data Breach: Next Steps for Protecting Your Members,” will broadcast live on Wednesday, March 27, at 2 p.m. Eastern from the association’s headquarters in Arlington, Va.

The deadline for early registration savings of $100 for association members and nonmembers is March 20.

“The Target data breach continues to unfold, and its full impact remains to be seen. Additionally, data breaches have become a fact of life, so it is vital for credit unions to gain the latest knowledge to help them navigate through successfully,” said Dan Berger, NAFCU’s president and CEO. “This webcast will be beneficial for credit unions that have been affected by any data breach and those looking to stay ahead of future challenges.”

The webcast speaker is Bruce Jolly, a highly regarded credit union veteran who has testified before Congress on issues ranging from taxation to field of membership. He will share information from major data breach cases, such as the TJ Maxx case, to help credit unions decide whether or not to join the class action lawsuit against Target. Carrie Hunt, NAFCU’s senior vice president of government affairs and general counsel, will moderate.

The webcast is designed to educate credit unions about how the Target data breach occurred, the ensuing claims against the retailer and the issues surrounding what happens next after a breach.

Other webcast highlights include:

  • answers to credit union boards’ questions regarding who pays for the data breach;
  • information on vendor security promises and liability limitations; and
  • a better understanding of compliance with federal consumer payment card protections.

For more information on the webcast or to register, call 800-344-5580 or visit www.nafcu.org/breachprotection14webcast.

Those unable to attend the live broadcast can purchase an on-demand version and view it for up to a year after the broadcast; this feature is included in the registration price.
