ATHENS, GA (April 23, 2014) -- Prior to the May 20th primary election, Georgia United Credit Union hosted Mike Collins, a candidate for the 10th Congressional district in our East Athens Branch @ 190 Gaines School Road. While Mike sits on the board of another Georgia credit union and is aware of the legislative and regulatory issues facing credit unions and our members, this gave us a first-hand chance to share our perspective.
During Mike’s visit, Athens native and Georgia United Board Member Tom Cochran shared information about the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program and partnership with the University of Georgia’s College of Family and Consumer Sciences that provides free tax preparation to over 1000 Athens residents – as well as other ways that credit unions serve and volunteer in the Athens area.
In addition to Georgia United, visits were also made to Robins CU and Peach State CU and Mike was able to connect with voters and get feedback on important issues in the 10th district.
