(July 1, 2014) -- evolve Federal Credit Union saw a sharp increase in name recognition thanks to their successful #HiddenCashEP campaign, which took place late June.
Inspired by the San Francisco-based Twitter account @HiddenCash, which gives clues that led people to stashes of money hidden in major cities, evolve Federal Credit Union decided to celebrate its continued success in El Paso County by hiding cash near area landmarks.
The credit union hid envelopes with cash, usually ranging from $25 to $60, and tweeted clues about their whereabouts using the hashtag #HiddenCashEP. The scavenger hunt was a massive social media success, with the credit union’s name trending citywide a day into the campaign.
“The strategy behind this grassroots campaign was to increase brand recognition of the credit union as well as increase our Twitter following. In total, we gave away $800 dollars and received news coverage every day of the campaign from major media outlets in the area,” said Elisa Arce, evolve FCU’s vice presi- dent of marketing. “It was our most successful and least expensive campaign to date.”
The morning of the first challenge, the credit union saw an increase of 1000 followers in the span of 18 hours. By the end of the challenge, they had gained more than 3000 followers.
This is the latest social media campaign carried out by the credit union, which have included a SCVNGR hunt for tickets to the Neon Desert Music Festival, a Pinterest Home Improvement contest, and much more.
