WOODBRIDGE, VA (July 21, 2014) -- Belvoir Federal Credit Union’s Senior Programmer/Analyst, Shawn McConnell, was nominated in the Next Top Credit Union Executive Competition hosted by Credit Union Executive Society (CUES).
Out of 109 nominees, 24 applicants across North America completed the first part of the competition – completing a 1-2 minute video submission about their role at their respective credit unions and one particular project they are working on to enhance the credit union movement.
After the video application round is complete, CUES will select their Top 15 candidates who will move on to the Blog Posting phase. The Five Finalist moving on will be required to produce an additional 1-2 minute video detailing the progress of their project to help the judges further evaluate the candidates.
Finally, the finalists come together in November at Amelia Island, Florida to present the results and progress/planning of their project to the judging panel, the conference audience, and live to the online audience. After the presentations, the judges, conference attendees, and the online public will submit their scores to determine the Finalist with the highest combines score.
Shawn’s video discusses his work on helping Belvoir Federal to go green in the digital age by increasing awareness of eServices. In addition to creating more efficiency within the credit union itself, Shawn has created eReceipts and eNotices for members. These services not only help the environment, but they also help to reduce costs and save the credit union money, which ultimately impacts the membership as a whole. “Shawn is resourceful, energetic, innovative, passionate about the credit union, and an overall fun employee to have on our team,” states Patricia Kimmel, Belvoir Federal’s CEO. “I was honored to nominate Shawn for this great competition and wish him the best of luck in the next rounds. He will continue to have our full support as he moves forward.”
