8th grade scholarships awarded by People’s Credit Union

MIDDLETOWN, RI (July 21, 2014) -- People’s Credit Union has announced the winners of 2014 8th Grade Scholarship.  The six recipients are Sophia Chang, Emily Boucher, Peter Fiaschetti, Michaela Sullivan, Ashley Tatum and Hossam Zaki.

The scholarships were awarded based on school involvement, community involvement and the answer to an essay question.  The scholarship recipients will each receive $500 but they have the chance to increase that amount each year of high school.  For each final grade that is an A, $50 is added to the scholarship amount and $25 is added to the scholarship amount for each final grade that is a B in the 9th through 12th grade.  The maximum amount to be earned is $1000.

People’s Credit Union also recently awarded $6,000 in college scholarships to six local students.  The students were awarded the People’s 8th Grade Scholarships in the amount of $500 in 2010.  All six winners received the maximum $1000 scholarship.

The six recipients are: Tiernan Chase of Newport, Collin Green of Wakefield, Morganne Adroved of Portsmouth, Zachary Smith of North Kingstown, Shannon Hugard of Middletown and Zoe Almeida of Bristol.
