SDCCU is sponsoring two special events benefiting Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego
SAN DIEGO, CA (September 23, 2014) -- San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®), San Diego’s largest locally-owned financial institution, is supporting Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego as a sponsor of two special events benefiting the hospital. SDCCU’s support includes a special, six-week fundraising campaign at every SDCCU branch throughout Southern California.
SDCCU will collect donations for the hospital by selling special paper sailboats at every SDCCU branch during each week leading up to the Rady Children’s Walk at SeaWorld® on Sunday, Oct. 26. SDCCU has been the presenting sponsor of this event, which is expected to draw more than 4,000 walkers, since its inception in 2007. Since the inaugural walk at SeaWorld eight years ago, more than $1.4 million has been raised for Rady Children’s.
The walk is along a one- or three-mile course that begins at the Rose Marie Starns South Shores Park on Mission Bay. The bayside park is located on South Shores Road, just east of SeaWorld San Diego. The route will include a portion of the aquatic theme park. All participants will receive a t-shirt, free admission to post-walk festivities, including games, entertainment, food and fun, plus a 50 percent discount admission coupon to return to SeaWorld San Diego after the walk. Every dollar raised will benefit Rady Children’s.
In addition to the walk, SDCCU will also serve as a premier sponsor of the 25th annual U-T Kids’ NewsDay, a fundraiser featuring volunteers selling special editions of the newspaper with the proceeds benefiting the hospital. This year’s Kids’ NewsDay on Tuesday, Oct. 21, is expected to draw about 2,000 volunteers, including school children, firefighters and many local celebrities from professional sports and the news media. The volunteers—wearing bright yellow aprons—fan across San Diego County at street corners and coffee shops, selling the special edition of the newspaper. The special edition papers, highlighting the advances being made and patient lives being changed, will also be sold in SDCCU branch locations.
“We are proud to support Rady Children’s, San Diego’s only hospital dedicated solely to pediatric care,” said SDCCU President and CEO Teresa Halleck. “We invite the community to join Team SDCCU in support of these special events. Together, we can make a real difference in the life of critically ill children whom we may never meet but whose lives have been saved through our support of the hospital.”
