Exclusive University of Maine Black Bear Debit Card now available at Maine Savings dedicates minimum of $50,000 to student athlete scholarships

OLD TOWN, ME (October 1, 2014) -- Maine Savings announced that the University of Maine Black Bear debit card is available through an exclusive five-year partnership with Black Bear Sports Properties, a property of Learfield Sports and the exclusive multimedia rights holder for University of Maine Athletics.

Each year of the five-year agreement, Maine Savings will contribute a minimum of $10,000 to the university’s Black Bear Fund. Eventually, Maine Savings expects that the yearly contributions will exceed the $50,000 minimum.

“With the opening of our new College Avenue branch, this is an added benefit for the students, faculty, alumni, and other Black Bear fans,” said John Reed, President and CEO of Maine Savings. “For every debit card purchase, Maine Savings will contribute $0.05 to the Black Bear Fund, and the sky’s the limit.”

“The exclusive card is a great way for fans to show their support for UMaine teams, as well as fund scholarships for student athletes,” said Andrew Stuebner, general manager for Black Bear Sports Properties.

“With the financial burden so many student athletes face in going to college, the Black Bear Debit Card will directly benefit our student athletes,” added Karlton Creech, University of Maine Director of Athletics.

The Black Bear Debit Card is now available to all Maine Savings members with RedWallet accounts. To learn more about the exclusive debit card and to sign up, visit www.mainesavings.com or visit one of the 10 Maine Savings branches.
