(December 1, 2014) -- Centra Foundation and Centra Credit Union are offering an alternative opportunity to support the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Program. Rather than adopting an Angel Tag from the traditional Angel Tree Centra members and friends are encouraged to make a financial donation when visiting Centra Credit Union branches in Indiana. Centra Foundation aims to raise $20,000 to provide winter clothes and toys for less fortunate children.
Christmas Trees at Centra Credit Union branches are decorated with Angel Tree Tags provided by the local The Salvation Army Corp. Each Tag represents the needs of a local child registered with The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program.
Rather than buying gifts Centra members and guests are able to make a financial donation. Tags and ornaments on the tree range in value from $5 -$100. Donations made at the branch will be pooled and given to The Salvation Army. Salvation Army Volunteers will purchase gifts for children helped through the program.
2014 marks the second year for Centra’s Holiday Giving Program. Lyn Morgan, President of the Centra Foundation, spoke about the program, “Last year donations to the Holiday Giving Program made a tremendous impact in Centra communities. Gifts from Centra members and friends enabled The Salvation Army to purchase winter clothes and toys for at least 170 less fortunate children. Centra Members really embraced the program! They appreciated the ease of providing a donation and knowing when pooled with those from other members provided a memorable Holiday for local children and families. This year we will have coin donation boxes in each of our branches. We learned last year that loose change really adds up!”
Lt. Alan Sladak from The Salvation Army Columbus Corp shared, “My wife, Jodi and I cannot thank Centra Foundation and Centra members enough for their generous support for the Angel Tree program. The support we received last year gave us a very bright light at the end of a very dark tunnel. Thanks to the additional support we were able to provide winter clothes and toys, stocking stuffers and a family game to all the children on our Christmas list. We look forward to our continued partnership this Christmas season.”
Centra’s Holiday Giving Program Angel Tree program will continue through Saturday, December 13th. Centra members can also make donations directly from their checking account through the Bill Payer option. Donations can also be made on-line at www.centrafoundation.org Donations made to Centra Foundation are tax deductible.
Centra Foundation was created by Centra Credit Union in 2012 as a Public Foundation. The Foundation is the charitable arm of Centra Credit Union and was formed to extend the Credit Union mission of People Helping People. Centra Foundation is Centered on Caring and aims to involve Centra members and friends in supporting charitable efforts that help meet the needs of communities where Centra members work and live.
