Credit Unions Kids at Heart Team donates $330,000 to Boston Children’s Hospital

Team continues its ongoing battle against Pediatric Brain Tumors, Moyamoya Disease and Sturge-Weber Syndrome

BURLINGTON, MA (June 2, 2015) -- Fifty-five (55) credit unions from numerous states recently concluded the Credit Unions Kids at Heart (CU K@H) 2015 fundraising season with a donation of $330,000 to Boston Children’s Hospital for research in the battle against childhood illness. CU K@H is a collaborative community service activity that was founded by Eastern Corporate Federal Credit Union (EasCorp) in 1996. Since inception, the CU K@H Program, and its Team of dedicated supporters, has funded several pediatric research projects of various types and complexities. Including this most recent donation, CU K@H has contributed more than $4.6 million to Boston Children’s.

Two-thousand fifteen (2015) marks the second year of a four-year commitment that the CU K@H Team has made to support several pediatric brain research projects, including the search for treatments, therapies, and cures for Moyamoya diseaseSturge-Weber syndrome, and brain tumors. This research is used by pediatric hospitals and other care centers all around the world. The CU K@H program’s partner in this endeavor is Boston Children’s Hospital, one of the leading pediatric research centers on the planet, where scientists have set the pace in treating and finding cures for many debilitating diseases.

The CU K@H Team’s annual fundraising activities were once again centered around the Boston Marathon, the world’s oldest annual marathon and most prestigious race of its kind. In 2015, the Team was granted 19 entries via the race’s charity runner program, and the Team’s runners were individually paired with children who are current or former patients at Boston Children’s Hospital.

Each year, the Team’s patient partners provide the mental and emotional motivation that is needed by the runners to complete their training and fundraising efforts throughout the lengthy, wintery training season. Runners know that their training challenges pale in comparison to those faced by the strong-spirited patient partners and their families each and every day. For that reason, runners tirelessly fundraise in hopes to find a cure for the ailments that plague so many children. The bond that is formed between the patient partners and runners is special, and often blossoms into a friendship that lasts well beyond Marathon season.
