Credit Union executive attends community leader summit at Facebook

Credit Union of Ohio’s VP of Marketing and Strategic Planning Jill Gerschutz attended the 2019 Facebook Communities Summit, Feb. 6-8, at Facebook headquarters in Menlo Park, Calif. Approximately 400 community leaders from the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada were invited to attend the free event after being “hand-selected” out of thousands of applicants.

“It was an honor to represent our industry and our community at the Summit,” said Gerschutz. “I believe I was chosen to attend because of our credit union’s strong representation of the people helping people philosophy both on and off social media.”

During the two-day summit Gerschutz had the opportunity to attend a variety workshops and networking experiences focused on the best tools and ideas to build stronger communities. Sheryl Sandberg, Mark Zuckerberg, Antonio Lucio, Ime Archibong, and other Facebook leaders took the main stage to celebrate those in attendance for their devotion to building meaningful communities.

“Many of the ideas I learned have already been implemented to improve offerings for our members,” said Gerschutz. “For example, we will be offering our audience the opportunity to schedule free financial counseling sessions through Facebook’s new scheduling tool.”

Gerschutz leads all social media efforts and marketing campaigns at Credit Union of Ohio. Last year the credit union was able to raise over $7,000 to support 12 local nonprofit organizations through its employee-funded Denim and Donations program. It used social media channels to further lift up the local causes. Gerschutz plans to use what she has learned to increase authentic stories and experiences for members through social media outlets in 2019.

Credit Union of Ohio serves state employees in all of Ohio’s 88 counties and the entire community of Franklin, Fairfield, Licking and Cuyahoga Counties. It is a $141 million state-chartered credit union with 19,000 members.
