Women’s Leadership Conference to feature executive panel on diversity, inclusion, and sexism in the credit union space

Cornerstone Credit Union League's 2019 Women's Leadership Conference is featuring an exclusive panel session called "Backwards in High Heels: Navigating the Pathway to Leadership," which aims to tackle not only the road to leadership, but also barriers to empowerment, such as sexist behavior.

Credit unions strive to lead the pack on diversity and inclusion issues, and while credit unions have the will and wherewithal to lead in that arena, we know we can't celebrate true success until the barrier issues are resolved.

The geographically diverse group of panelists includes Teresa Freeborn, CEO of Xceed Financial Credit Union; Jill Nowacki, CEO of Credit Union League of Connecticut; and Rachel Pross, chief risk officer for Maps Credit Union. James Pogue, Ph.D., multigenerational intelligence and diversity/inclusion expert, will moderate. Each of the three panelists has spoken out about diversity and inclusion, so the session promises to be lively.

Panelist Rachel Pross is the author of a LinkedIn post from March 18, 2019, that went viral, titled "Credit Unions, We Can Do Better." The post chronicles Pross' experience at a recent conference where she encountered inappropriate behavior by her male counterparts and watched male witnesses look the other way. (Read CUNA CEO Jim Nussle's response.) The Women's Leadership Conference executive panel aims to deal with this issue head on.

This acclaimed women-centric conference is designed to foster excellence in rising and accomplished women leaders across the credit union movement and features system experts and successful national figures who share wisdom, insights, and strategies designed to motivate and inspire long-term personal growth, balance, and professional development. Men who are champions for the advancement of women are welcome! We are stronger together!
