2020 John Garrison Scholarship Award winners announced

Shell Federal Credit Union presents the John Garrison Scholarship to graduating high school seniors each year. Recipients are selected based upon academic performance, community involvement, extracurricular activities, and response to the application essay. This year’s essay asked applicants to explain how a credit union can accommodate financial obstacles during their first year of college.

More than100 applications from 46 different high schools throughout Harris County, Texas were submitted for the John Garrison Scholarship. Ten deserving high school seniors were selected this year to receive $2,500 for the college, university or vocational-technical school of their choice. Here are the 2020 selected scholarship recipients and the college of their choice.

Irissa Machetta of Klein Collins High School: Harvard University

In light of the current pandemic, Shell FCU would like to acknowledge the scholarship recipients for their accomplishments and hard work throughout their high school careers. Recipients will be recognized and presented an award at the Shell FCU Annual Meeting.

Since 2001, Shell Federal Credit Union has awarded 128 students with the John Garrison Scholarship award totaling$312,500. The John Garrison Scholarship was established in memory of John Garrison, a dedicated volunteer Board Member of over 50 years. His vision and volunteer spirit is still an inspiration for us all. Our hope is that applicants will embrace that same spirit and carry it forward into their careers and volunteerism.
