New Horizons Credit Union is proud to announce the recipients of the 2020 New Horizons Credit Union Scholarship Program which awarded five, $1,000 scholarships to deserving high school seniors chosen based on their academic achievement, community involvement, and essay responses.
Although Covid-19 has caused school closings and suspension of formal graduation ceremonies, New Horizons Credit Union continued on with the awarding of their annual scholarships. Winning students were contacted individually and sent a New Horizons Credit Union Certificate of Achievement to add to their college portfolios. The winning student’s desired college will receive a check in the student’s name to be applied to their college registration and tuition costs.
Scholarship winners are as follows:
Braxton Bauer – graduate from Fairhope High School
Savannah Dinkel – graduate from W.P. Davidson High School
Cameron Harris – graduate from B.C. Rain High School
Bryson Martin – graduate from Fairhope High School
Ashleigh Nelson – graduate from Alma Bryant High School
April is also National Credit Union Youth Month. So, this scholarship program helps reinforce the importance of youth savings. New Horizons Credit Union offers five, $1000 scholarships annually, and is a program that has been going strong for over 17 years awarding, now, over $65,000 in scholarship dollars. To qualify for consideration, a student must be a graduating high school senior and have a New Horizons Credit Union New Wave Savings Account.
Edith Franklin, President/CEO of New Horizons Credit Union, comments, “We believe in giving back in our community – especially through education. Many applications were received despite school closings which made the final decision very difficult. We wish all the students success in their pursuits.”
Information regarding the 2021 scholarships will be available in December at NewHCU.org.
