Area credit unions and industry foundation to donate funds to fight food insecurity

Eleven area credit unions have partnered with the Michigan Credit Union Foundation’s Community Crisis Support Fund to deliver $18,000 to Feeding America West Michigan’s hunger relief efforts in the 13 northern Michigan counties served by the institutions.

The credit unions comprise the Paul Bunyan Chapter of the Michigan Credit Union League (MCUL) and provide financial services and expert guidance to more than 166,000 members/owners, stretching from Emmet to Mason counties. The chapter includes the following institutions:

·         4Front CU ·         Safe Harbor CU
·         Filer CU ·         St. Francis X FCU
·         Forest Area FCU ·         TBA CU
·         Frankfort Community FCU ·         Traverse Catholic FCU
·         Mason County School Employees CU ·         Wexford Community CU
·         Northwest Consumer FCU

The chapter’s institutions frequently collaborate to bolster the region’s families. Collectively, the chapter invested more than 5,500 hours of team member volunteerism in area community initiatives in 2019.

The $18,000 gift will allow Feeding America West Michigan to provide 72,000 individual meals to northern Michigan families in need through its 137 member agencies in Benzie, Charlevoix, Emmet, Grand Traverse, Manistee, Kalkaska, Lake, Leelanau, Mason, Missaukee, Osceola, Lake, Mason and Wexford counties.
