MSGCU supports “Macomb is Open” contest and makes $21,000 available for Macomb County eateries and patrons

In support of the Macomb County Chamber’s Macomb is Open contest, Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union (MSGCU) is pleased to donate $10,500, matching county and chamber funds, making $21,000 available for local eateries and patrons.

“Locally-owned and family-operated restaurants have been some of the hardest hit during the pandemic,” said MSGCU President/CEO Pete Gates. “With members and communities at the heart of all that we do, our hope is that this contest will help our local eateries sustain business during this challenging time.”

Permitted to stay open under the “Stay Home, Stay Safe” executive order, many food and beverage establishments have been offering curbside pick-up or delivery. Working with minimal crews, they are doing everything they can to survive the pandemic as they await the opportunity to open for dine-in customers.

To help these businesses, Macomb County has joined forces with MSGCU and six local chambers to launch the Macomb is Open contest. Participating chambers include: Macomb County, Sterling Heights Regional, Anchor Bay, Eastpointe-Roseville, Greater Romeo Washington and Richmond.

Interested individuals can stop by any independently owned and operated food or beverage establishment in Macomb County, including diners, coffee shops, breweries, wineries, bakeries, ice cream shops and others. The patron will take a photo, share it on social media with the hashtag #MacombisOpen and submit the photo online for a chance to win a $50 gift card to that establishment. The named business is also entered to win $1,000 grant. Twenty patrons will receive $50 gift cards and 20 establishments will receive the $1,000 grants.

Entries must be received between Wednesday, May 20 and Sunday, May 31 at 11:59 p.m. Winners will be selected live on the Make Macomb Your Home Facebook page on Monday, June 1 at noon. Patrons may enter a different eatery with each entry but can only win once. Businesses may be represented by many entries but can only win once.

Contest details and the contest entry portal can be found at MakeMacombYourHome.com.
