On December 3, 2020 Central Credit Union of Florida donated $250 to the Baptist Health Care Foundation after raising funds through their Mustaches for a Mission event. Aimed at supporting men’s health, Central Credit Union of Florida launched their social media campaign for the entire month of November 2020 and invited everyone on social media to participate in the fundraiser.
The annual promotion summons all social media users to send in a photo of themselves, friends and/or family members with a mustache or beard – real or costume – with each picture resulting in a $5 donation to the Baptist Health Care Foundation and their men’s health programs, i.e., prostate exams, cancer treatments and education. The photos were then shared on Central’s social media newsfeed for everyone to enjoy. The first one hundred people to submit a photo were also entered into a random drawing with the winner receiving a $25 gift card.
Central Credit Union of Florida began this yearly fundraiser in hopes of not only supporting a local institution, but also to engage with the public and raise awareness for men’s health in a fun and uplifting way. 2020 found more people online than ever before and as Barbara MacNeil, Central Credit Union of Florida Community Liaison, stated,
“We see selfies on social media every day and so we thought why not use this opportunity to give back to those who need it while also getting to see some cool mustaches. It is exciting to see how many people participated and we are really impressed with what people can do with their facial hair!”
