Point Breeze Credit Union continues legacy of support for the Maryland Food Bank with donation of $25,000 that will provide up to 75,000 meals for people in need

Point Breeze Credit Union recently announced it has donated $25,000 to the Maryland Food Bank. Point Breeze made the gift in lieu of hosting their annual “The Harvest” Golf Tournament, which has raised funds for the Maryland Food Bank each year since 2018. “The Harvest” Golf Tournament was not held in 2020 due to COVID-19-related concerns.

Jack Tevis, owner of Tevis Oil and regular supporter of the Point Breeze “The Harvest” Golf Tournament, still sent in his $1,000 for a foursome, knowing that this past year’s golf tournament was cancelled. The additional $1,000 donation to the Maryland Food Bank brought the donation total to $26,000.

The donation will support the Maryland Food Bank’s increased distribution efforts during the pandemic.

“We are grateful for this gift from Point Breeze Credit Union and for their ongoing support,” said Carmen Del Guercio, President & CEO of the Maryland Food Bank.  “Both their financial support and the awareness they bring to the issue of food insecurity through this partnership have been extremely important to helping us feed more Marylanders facing food insecurity than ever before, some for the very first time. Their team truly understands the needs of the people we serve and our organization.”

The Maryland Food Bank has served as a key community resource through the COVID-19 pandemic, having distributed enough food to provide 43 million meals statewide between March and December 2020. The Maryland Food Bank supports more than 350 Network Partners statewide that collectively provide nearly 1,450 distribution points with much-needed food for their local communities.

“Now more than ever, it's important to continue supporting the community and those who have been hit hardest by the many societal impacts of COVID-19,” said Bernie McLaughlin, President and CEO of Point Breeze Credit Union. “The Maryland Food Bank does amazing work and our team at Point Breeze Credit Union is extremely honored to be able to help them in their fight to end hunger in Maryland and beyond.”

Point Breeze Credit Union has scheduled this year’s “The Harvest” Golf Tournament for Monday, September 20, 2021 at Hayfields Country Club.
