Compass Community Credit Union turned 70 this year! The credit union serves over 6,800 members who live, work, or worship in Humboldt, Del Norte, and Trinity Counties in California. Compass exists to empower and support the financial growth of its members.
The Credit Union was started by a group of professors and employees at Humboldt State College. In 1951, California State Employees No. 20 Credit Union was created. They formed with a desire to assist each other with reasonably priced loans and a good return on their savings. On January 29, 1979, California State Employees No. 20 Credit Union merged with the Federal Employees of Humboldt County Credit Union. The credit union then adopted the name California State & Federal Employees No. 20 Credit Union.
In 2017, the credit union was granted a field of membership expansion to serve those who live, work, or worship in Humboldt, Del Norte, and Trinity Counties. In 2018, the credit union changed its name to Compass Community Credit Union to better reflect this new field of membership. While our name has changed over the years, the cooperative spirit remains an integral part of our philosophy today.
“We are here solely for the benefit of our members, to guide them to better banking,” said Compass Community Credit Union CEO Ray Litchfield. “We continue to evaluate what we can do better for our members, whether through innovative electronic services, attractive rates or convenient services that combine to make our members’ lives better.”
To celebrate 70 years, Compass has a “Refer a Friend” promotion. When a member invites a friend to open an account with Compass, both are automatically entered with a chance to win $700. Certain restrictions apply, visit Compassccu.org/refer for complete details.
