The Maine Credit Union League has honored University Credit Union (UCU) Chief Lending Officer April Gleason as the recipient of its annual Political Involvement Award for her contributions to the League’s legislative advocacy on behalf of Maine credit unions and their members statewide.
As Chief Lending Officer, Gleason is a member of UCU’s senior leadership team and has been with the credit union since 2003. Since 2011, Gleason has served on the board of the Maine Association of Mortgage Professionals (MAMP), promoting education within the mortgage industry, and providing a legislative voice to mortgage professionals in Maine. She has also served on the board of HoMEworks since 2013, helping to promote homebuyer education across the state. Gleason earned her MBA from Husson University and is a Credit Union Business Lending Professional (CUBLP), a designation from CUNA.
The Maine Credit Union League is a nonprofit, professional trade association that exists to serve Maine’s credit unions. Founded in 1938, the League is committed to helping credit unions succeed, and improve the financial lives of their members. Advocacy on behalf of Maine’s credit unions is a key component of the League’s mission. The League has been instrumental in favorably influencing decisions on many important issues affecting credit unions and their members, from legislation to public opinion.
“April is a tremendous resource to the League's Governmental Affairs Team. She is quick with her thoughts and information on any inquiries we send her, and she regularly shares bills and issues she thinks the League should be aware of,” said Robert Caverly, Vice President of Advocacy and Outreach at the Maine Credit Union League. “April’s contributions are greatly appreciated and valued. That's why it was an easy decision for us to award her with the 2022 Political Involvement Award.”
