Georgia United Credit Union empowers team members to make a difference

Team members choose 25 local charities to donate time and money

Georgia United Credit Union actively supports programs and charitable organizations that help improve the lives of their members and strengthen the community. This year, over 370 Georgia United team members selected 25 local 501(c)(3) organizations they wished to serve. The credit union’s Foundation allocated funds for each of the charities and encouraged their team members to leverage the resources in a manner they felt would make the biggest impact.

Team members provided a variety of support to their chosen charities such as building personal care kits, donating gifts, purchasing items for household use, serving meals, and providing a day of fun and enjoyment to those who have fallen on desperate times. More importantly, team members formed relationships with both those in need and those who provide the services that better the lives of others.

“Every year our team members volunteer their time to support our School Crashers, Junior Achievement, Can Hunger and Wish Tree programs, as well as causes that are important to them individually. All our team members have servants’ hearts and recognize the great responsibility we have to give back to our local communities,” stated Georgia United Credit Union President and CEO, Debbie Smith.

Service is built into the business strategy and culture at Georgia United, with the goal of positively impacting the lives of their members, team members and communities they serve. The credit union encourages civic participation through their Service Day Program, where team members receive three paid days of community service every year. In 2019, Georgia United team members were provided 8,688 hours to give back to their communities. The credit union’s dedication to serve has been recognized by industry leaders such as Forbes and by team members as illustrated by their sixth consecutive Top Workplaces in Atlanta award.
