27 credit union champions win races Tuesday

WASHINGTON, DC (June 29, 2022) — Credit union champions added 27 more wins in Colorado, Illinois, Mississippi, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Utah Tuesday. Credit Union Legislative Action Council (CULAC) and state Leagues have backed 213 credit union competitors this cycle with a 98% success rate.

CULAC and the Illinois Credit Union League (ICUL) supported 14 candidates, including:

  • Illinois State Rep. Delia Ramirez, a Democrat, won in the newly drawn open 3rd District race.
  • In the member-on-member race for the new 6th District, Rep. Sean Casten beat Rep. Marie Newman.
  • Rep. Danny Davis won a competitive race against Kina Collins to keep his seat in the 7th District.

In Mississippi, CULAC and the Mississippi Credit Union Association backed Rep. Michael Guest, R-03, in the Republican primary runoff.

Mike Flood, R-01, supported by CULAC and Nebraska Credit Union League, won the special election for the open seat. The House will likely seat Flood in mid-July.

CULAC also partnered with three other Leagues Tuesday. Together with Cornerstone League, six credit union-friendly candidates won in Oklahoma; five won in Utah in partnership with Utah’s Credit Unions; and two incumbents advanced to the general election in coordination with the Mountain West Credit Union Association.

CULAC is one of the five largest trade association PACs and among the most bipartisan PACs in the country. CULAC works with state leagues to identify, vet, and back congressional candidates who support credit unions and the CUNA-League system’s efforts to promote financial well-being for all.
