31 credit union champions prevail in early August primaries

WASHINGTON, DC (August 3, 2022) — Thirty-one credit union-friendly candidates won their primary races in Arizona, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, and Washington Tuesday. Credit Union Legislative Action Council (CULAC) and state leagues have backed 255 credit union champions with a 97% success rate this election cycle.

In Michigan, CULAC and the Michigan Credit Union League backed 9 successful candidates.

This election cycle, CULAC and the newly named GoWest Credit Union Association supported 3 candidates in Arizona and 11 in Washington, including:

  • Republicans Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, in the 3rd Congressional District and Rep. Dan Newhouse in the 4th Congressional District. They are the projected winners in Washington’s top two primary.

In Kansas, CULAC and the Heartland Credit Union Association supported 4 credit union champions.

Four champions also won in Missouri with the support of CULAC and the Missouri League.

CULAC is backing Rep. Beth Harwell, R-05, for the upcoming Thursday, August 4, primary, in partnership with the Tennessee Credit Union League.

CULAC is one of the five largest trade association PACs and among the most bipartisan PACs in the country. CULAC works with state leagues to identify, vet, and back congressional candidates who support credit unions and the CUNA-League system’s efforts to promote financial well-being for all.
