NOVI, MI (May 1, 2023) — On Saturday, April 29, the Vibe Credit Union fundraising team gathered at PurpleStride Michigan at Milliken State Park in Detroit to raise funds for pancreatic cancer research and awareness. Employees raised over $13,000 for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network through dressdown days, raffles, and personal donations, making them this year’s top fundraising team along with their second year as Premier Sponsor.
Vibe got involved with PurpleStride almost 15 years ago when one of its employees lost a loved one to pancreatic cancer. Vibe’s passion to support the cause was ignited when more team members shared how the disease had also affected their families and friends.
The Vibe team consisted of 75 Vibe employees plus 30 of their family and friends. They credit this year’s enthusiasm to the leadership of their CEO, Chaz Rzewnicki, who started 2023 by initiating an employee volunteer program. Since January, Vibe employees have completed over 1,000 service hours in the community. Their outreach program supports the credit union’s philosophy of People Helping People.
Kelly Hess, Chief Financial Officer of Vibe Credit Union, said, “Sadly, I have lost three family members to this dreadful disease. I look forward to PurpleStride every year. I really love hearing the survivor testimonials and meeting members of the other fundraising teams.”
Pancreatic cancer is a disease that affects thousands of people each year. It is often difficult to diagnose in its early stages, making it one of the deadliest forms of cancer, with only a 5-year survival rate of 12%. However, with increased funding and awareness, researchers are making strides in developing new treatments and improving survival rates.
