ACCU hosts sixth annual pet adoption event

GLENDORA, CA (February 25, 2020) — America’s Christian Credit Union (ACCU), a faith-based financial institution headquartered in Southern California, recently hosted its sixth annual pet adoption event, Pause For Paws. Held at ACCU’s main campus in Glendora, Pause For Paws affirmed the credit union’s key corporate priorities of building stronger families and communities.

A record 40 pet service providers from across Southern California were represented at the Valentine’s Day-themed event on February 8. The vendors comprised vets, trainers, walkers, sitters, and shelters, including The Paw MissionThe Ranch Rescue TeamSit Means Sit Dog TrainingBest Buddies Pet Care, and Fire Hydrant Petting Sitting Co., to name a few.

“This is our second year attending,” says Kylie Holliman-Rivera, founder of Fire Hydrant. “We love seeing the dog community come together!”

Fifteen ACCU staff members volunteered their Saturday morning to ensure the success of Pause For Paws 2020, which was spearheaded by community engagement coordinator Nikole Pearce. Also present were the credit union’s CEO, Mendell L. Thompson, and other local dignitaries.

“This is one of my favorite events to organize,” says Nikole. “Being able to help the rescues find loving homes is such a blessing. And it’s great to see so many happy faces from community members who stop by. I look forward to it every year!”

By the end of the day, 18 dogs and one cat had been adopted. Additionally, many people signed up for site visits, and soon they too will take home a four-legged family member.

ACCU employee Shannon (pictured above), who adopted a four-month-old puppy called Peace from FurEver Pawz Rescue, tells the bittersweet story of how Peace and her siblings were found on the street next to their dead mom. Since it was Christmastime, the puppies were named Love, Joy, Hope, and Peace.

“I picked Peace because she was the most playful of the litter,” says Shannon. “We already have two dogs at home, but she’s going to be mine!”
