Affinity Plus Foundation representative recognized as a Time MONEY Hero

Sandy Olson represents Minnesota as the Time MONEY Hero for teaching financial education to refugees at MORE Multicultural School for Empowerment.

ST. PAUL, MN (July 7, 2014) — Affinity Plus is proud to announce that Sandy Olson, a representative of the Affinity Plus Foundation, was recognized on June 27 as a Time MONEY hero.

One person from each state and the District of Columbia is recognized as a MONEY hero for helping others improve their personal financial situation. Olson was nominated and selected as the MONEY hero in Minnesota for teaching financial education courses to refugees at MORE Multicultural School for Empowerment (MORE) for the past 11 years. The topics she covers in the courses include money management, budgeting, credit cards, and lending.

“During each class, I provide refugees with tools that will help them understand our country’s financial system, and then dive into specific topics like checking and savings accounts for example,” states Olson. “Most importantly, I listen to their questions and concerns, and help them find answers. As the discussion develops, and their confidence and trust grows, so does our relationship.”

Olson teaches the courses by volunteering through the Affinity Plus Foundation, which is a 501c3 nonprofit organization. The mission of the Foundation is, “To enhance the quality of life in Minnesota communities through partnership in financial education, programs and support.”

“Sandy has done an amazing job of helping people improve their lives by improving their financial situation,” reflects Affinity Plus Foundation Executive Director, Amy Hanson. “It’s an honor to have someone like her advocating for financial education through our Foundation, and this recognition is well deserved.”
