Allegiance Credit Union names community organizer Robert Ruiz Associate Board Director

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK (January 12, 2021) — Allegiance Credit Union announced that it has named Robert Ruiz to serve as an associate director of the Allegiance board of directors. Ruiz is currently the president of Scissortail Community Development Corporation, a non-profit that works on economic and community development issues in underserved areas.

“Robert is a well-known community leader who has helped to revitalize struggling neighborhoods, improve education for children and families of color and build bridges between different communities and people,” said Amy Downs, Allegiance CEO. “We are excited to welcome him to the team.”

Ruiz said he is motivated by Allegiance’s commitment to serving the Hispanic community and underserved areas of the Oklahoma City metro area. Allegiance is certified as a “Juntos Avanzamos” credit union. JuntosAvanzamos – meaning “together we advance” – is a designation for credit unions committed to serving and empowering Hispanic consumers.

“The work we do at Scissortail is about injecting vitality and prosperity into our communities, especially communities that are struggling,” said Ruiz. “Allegiance shares those goals and is committed to ensuring that Oklahomans can manage their finances in partnership with an institution they trust. I’m grateful for this opportunity and excited to do great work with Allegiance.”

About Allegiance Credit Union

As a local credit union that's been serving Oklahomans since 1963, Allegiance understands the needs of our community. Formally Federal Employees Credit Union (FECU), it was originally located in the basement of the Federal Courthouse and then moved into the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. In 1995, over half the staff was lost in the Oklahoma City Bombing. That day we learned the tough lessons of loss and adversity. Over time, we also learned about hope and renewal. The credit union was rebuilt on stronger bonds, stronger unity, and stronger ideals. In February 2002, FECU became a community charter, allowing membership from the six counties surrounding Oklahoma City, and led to the name change of Allegiance Credit Union (ACU) in May 2003. After converting to a federal charter in December 2021, the legal name changed to Allegiance Federal Credit Union, while still doing business as Allegiance Credit Unio
