Altura Christmas Tree Helps Raise Funds for Local Medical Center
(Riverside, Calif.) Dec. 18, 2012 – Altura Credit Union continued a holiday tradition this year by raising funds for Riverside County Medical Center’s Pediatrics Units as part of the 23rd Annual Festival of Trees. Fifty local organizations, including Altura, each decorate a Christmas Tree that is “sold” as part of the event, with the proceeds going to the medical center.
The five-day event attracts more than 30,000 people each year and is the main fundraising event for the medical center and a major holiday event in the community. Each year about $500,000 is raised with the proceeds used to purchase much-needed equipment for the children’s units, including the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the Child Abuse & Neglect Unit, and the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
Local businesses and individuals bid on the decorated and donated trees, each of which features a unique theme. An individual purchased Altura’s “HolidayWine & Spirits” tree this holiday season for $3,500.
In addition to decorating and sponsoring a tree, Altura also sponsored “Story Time with Santa” for children. The little ones were treated to holiday carols, story time, crafts and other kid activities, as well as an individual visit with Santa.
Irene Simone, branch manager, and Karena Chum, Business Development officer, coordinated Altura’s efforts this year. Nine staffers helped prepare all the handmade decorations and seven decorated the tree itself.
