Altura Credit Union members and employees stuff a van with school supplies for needy kids

Part of the County’s ‘Fill a Backpack’ Program

RIVERSIDE, CA  (August 18, 2014) — Several dozen needy children are heading back to school this year with new backpacks filled with school supplies thanks to the generosity of the employees and members of Altura Credit Union.  Collection stations were set up in each of Altura’s nine local branches, as well as at the corporate offices in Riverside, and together the donations filled a large van.

Administered by the County Department of Mental Health’s Parent Support and Training Program, Fill a Backpack has been providing schools supplies for local needy kids for 16 years. Altura collected donations over a two-week period from late July into early August.

“Altura has a long history with local schools and we are always excited to participate in this program and send kids back to school with the supplies they need to be successful,” said Tina Covington, vice president, Sales and Business Development, Altura Credit Union.

As a credit union, Altura is a non-for-profit financial cooperative owned by its members. Membership is open to anyone who lives, works, attends school or worships in Riverside and SanDiego counties and selected cities in San Bernardino and Orange counties.
