Altura Credit Union participates in Riverside’s 11th annual Day of the Dead Festival
RIVERSIDE, CA (November 19, 2014) — Altura Credit Union recently participated in the 11th annual Day of the Dead Festival in downtown Riverside held on Nov. 2, All Soul’s Day. The credit union sponsored an altar where Altura employees and members honored deceased loved ones.
Altura also became the event’s first corporate sponsor this year, joining the City of Riverside, Riverside Metropolitan Museum, Riverside Arts Council and the Ballet Folklorico de Riverside.
Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a traditional Mexican celebration that celebrates life and death with respect and reverence. This year’s Riverside event drew more than 18,000 people. It included singing, dancing, food, games and art. The event also featured a traditional Day of the Dead procession as well as traditional and community altars in a downtown park.
This was Altura’s first time at the Day of the Dead Festival. “By participating in traditional Hispanic holidays, our goal is to create opportunities where we can learn and understand one another’s cultures, as well as share in the experiences and celebrations of our community,” said Tina Covington, vice president of Sales and Business Development, Altura Credit Union.
The credit union invited its members and employees to share pictures, messages and special notes to deceased loved ones, and 22 submitted items for inclusion on its altar at the event.
