America First Credit Union employees help women in need with Teddy Bear Den Collection

(July 7, 2014) — As part of its employee-driven Greater Good program, America First Credit Union employees at branches in the Davis County area held a collection drive for the March of Dimes’ Teddy Bear Den program at Midtown Community Health Clinic in Ogden, Utah. Seeing the need to help pregnant and mothering women in the community, credit union employees collected prenatal items including diapers, bottles, shampoos, lotions, blankets and clothing over a month-long time period.

The Teddy Bear Den offers prenatal care and helps new mothers in need of support for their newborns. Sponsored by the Utah March of Dimes, the program provides free baby care products to low-income pregnant women as incentives to practice healthy behaviors throughout their pregnancies. Donated items help alleviate the significant financial burdens placed on low-income pregnant and parenting women by providing them with the baby care items they could not otherwise afford.

In keeping with the credit union philosophy of people helping people, The Greater Good program offers a planned, managed framework with the goal of motivating and enabling employees to effectively volunteer under the leadership of America First. Quarterly activities are focused on specific areas of need and benefit a nonprofit organization, school, or municipality.

Celebrating 75 years, America First has become one of the largest, most stable and most progressive credit unions in the country, and has remained a member-owned, not-for-profit cooperative financial institution. Today, America First has 107 branches, and is the eleventh largest credit union in assets in the United States with over $6 billion, and the seventh largest credit union in membership in America with more than 647,000 members.
