On Thursday, June 25, American 1 Credit Union held its 76th Annual Board Meeting. During the event, American 1 voted and appointed its Board of Directors and awarded two grantees with funds from its 2026 Board of Directors Grant Program.
To guide American 1’s strategic vision and continued growth, Frank Weathers was appointed as Board Chair, Tim Hernandez as Vice Chair, and Linda Schaub as Treasurer.

“These individuals are outstanding leaders who bring unique strengths and perspectives to the Board of Directors,” said Martha Fuerstenau, President and CEO of American 1. “The Board members are dedicated advocates for American 1. Their longstanding connection to the credit union and community engagement make them excellent for these leadership roles. On behalf of the Executive Team and Board of Directors, we are grateful for their service and commitment.”
Also, during the annual meeting, American 1’s Board of Directors recognized its 2026 Board of Director’s Grant recipients. This grant is available to individuals at any life stage who are pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university or are enrolled in a trade school program. The recipient can receive $2,500 annually, renewable for up to four years, for a total of $10,000.
This year’s recipient is George M., a graduate of Michigan Center High School in Jackson. The Board also recognized 2025 grant recipient Chelsea W., a student at Grand Canyon University and a local Jackson resident, who renewed her grant award. In total, $5,000 in grant funding was distributed during the annual meeting.
