American 1 CU spreads holiday cheer

JACKSON, MI (December 6, 2013) — American 1 Credit Union is dedicated to the communities they serve and feels strongly about giving back.  Each month the credit union raises money for a charity.  In November, American 1 raised money to adopt families in the communities they serve. This year, American 1 adopted 15 families from each of their 12 branch counties, as well as the Resource Center, back office staff and Marketing department.

During the month they held popcorn and water Friday’s at four of the branches. Staff also sold snowball plush animals at each of the branches. The departments and branches were able to do additional fundraising to help further the cause. Families have been adopted through the AWARE Shelter, the Jackson Interfaith Shelter, and local schools in each of the areas they serve.

In addition, American 1 went shopping for two units stationed in Afghanistan. In September, American 1 raised over $2000 to purchase items for 60 soldiers. 17 boxes were shipped out before Thanksgiving. Staff donated items such as cereal and envelopes. We purchased items such as protein bars, journals, and fleece blankets were purchased, just to name a few. Grass Lake’s third graders at George Long Elementary wanted to support the troops as well by donating socks and shampoo and conditioner and making Christmas cards for every soldier.
