MADISON, Wis. – CUNA Mutual Group’s second annual, daylong Online Discovery Conference on Oct. 4 gave credit union professionals full control of their experience – from location to lunch to even when to attend.

“The cool thing about the conference was participants made it their own,” said Steve Johnson, senior vice president, Marketing & Credit Union Strategy. For example, @kimberrymuffin, one of the @CUDiscovery Twitter followers, tweeted during the conference, “it’s really cold at the Discovery Conference…oops, that’s my fault! #CUOnline.” “This is an excellent representation of how technology allows us to interact on an entirely new level; unfortunately, it doesn’t allow us to control the AC in someone’s office,” Johnson added.

Online Discovery is the Web-based equivalent of a face-to-face conference without the associated expenses or time away from the office. The free, virtual event attracted a national and international audience of more than 1,900 credit union and league staff. The conference’s future-focused content aimed to help credit unions solve problems, face challenges and address opportunities.

“If you missed the live event, it’s not too late to participate,” said Johnson. “You can still access the conference on demand by registering,” he added.

Registration, even after the live event, guarantees access to all conference materials until July 4, 2012. Registrants can view or revisit the 13 credit union-focused sessions, download all conference materials, visit the expo hall and network with hundreds of peers by continuing to download virtual business cards for up to nine months at no expense.

Three lucky conference participants each won a $1,000 show prize from CUNA Mutual Group for their credit union. Winners were randomly drawn from those who registered for the event. The three winners were:

  • Joshua Howes, Maine Savings Federal Credit Union, Hampden, Maine;
  • Rnel Sohl, University of Nebraska Federal Credit Union, Lincoln, Neb.;
  • Janelle Higgison, River Valley Credit Union, Ada, Mich.

To view the other prize winners, randomly drawn from entries at the virtual booths in the exhibit hall, visit the conference prize page.
