Battle Jacks & MCCU team up to raise funds for A.S.K. with Star Wars jersey

BATTLE CREEK, MI (July 2, 2025) |

The Battle Creek Battle Jacks (Battle Jacks) and Marshall Community Credit Union (MCCU) are continuing their tradition of community impact with the launch of the 2025 specialty jersey fundraiser, benefiting All Species Kinship (A.S.K.), a local nonprofit with a powerful mission rooted in Calhoun County.

This year’s specialty jersey is inspired by Star Wars character R2-D2 and will be worn by the team during Star Wars Night on Saturday, July 12, at MCCU Field. Following the game, the limited-edition jerseys will be auctioned off, with all proceeds going directly to support A.S.K.’s rescue and education efforts.

“Each season, we select a nonprofit that’s making a real difference in our community,” said Laura Van Dyke, Community & Youth Engagement Manager, MCCU. “A.S.K.'s mission is one of compassion and action, and we’re excited to shine a spotlight on their important work through this year’s jersey fundraiser.”

The annual jersey auction is a staple of the MCCU and Battle Jacks partnership. Since 2022, the partnership has donated a total of $4,200 to non-profit organizations in Calhoun County.

"Designing a new jersey every year is more than just a creative project—it’s a way to give back,” said Brody Conaty, Battle Jacks General Manager. “Jersey sales have increased each year. In 2022, we raised $1,000 and in 2024, that number grew to $2,000. This year’s R2-D2-inspired jersey is sure to be a hit with Star Wars fans, but more importantly, it supports a nonprofit that’s doing extraordinary work for animals and our community.”

Founded by a compassionate mother-daughter team, A.S.K. began its journey in a Battle Creek neighborhood, where they saw firsthand the harsh conditions faced by dogs chained without proper shelter. Their passion sparked the creation of a 501(c)(3) organization that now rescues and rehabilitates animals of all species—from guinea pigs and turtles, and even injured wildlife. They also play a vital role in educating the public on humane treatment and how to help animals in distress.

Donations of dog and cat food, durable pet toys, and paper towels are being accepted at all MCCU branch locations through July 12. Community members are encouraged to stop by any branch to contribute. All proceeds and donations will directly support A.S.K.’s mission to protect and advocate for animals in need.
